Introduction

Applications of management science are abundant in industry as airlines, manufacturing companies, service organizations, military branches, and in government. Management science uses rational, systematic, science-based techniques to inform and improve decisions of all kinds Management science is also concerned with so-called ”soft-operational analysis”, which concerns methods for strategic planning, strategic decision support, and Problem Structuring Methods (PSM).As the world develops and embraces information technology, the need for managerial decisions and information becomes more critical.
Objectives
The department will prepare students so that they will be able to:
(1)    Use scientific research-based principles, strategies, and analytical methods to improve an organizational ability to enact rational and meaningful management decisions to complex problems
(2)    Develop and apply models and concepts that are useful in helping to illuminate management issues and solve managerial problems
(3)    Help businesses to achieve their goals using the scientific methods of operational research

Courses offered:
(1)(i) Bachelor of Economics

(ii) Bachelor of Economics and Statistics
Minimum entry requirement:
Admission will be on the basis of academic qualifications and more specifically will be governed by any one of the following Senate approved regulations:
(a)    The common regulations of the Bachelor’s degree of the South Eastern Kenya University(SEKU) shall be applicable.
(b)    Holder of KCSE certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili.
(c)    Holders of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and a minimum of a credit (6) pass in Mathematics at KCE.
(d)    Holder of a degree from a recognized university.
(e)    Holder of a CPA/CPS part II or a relevant diploma from an institution recognized by Senate and must have obtained a minimum grade of C plain at KCSE.

(iii) Diploma in Human Resource Management
(iv) Diploma in Purchasing and Supplies Management
(v) Diploma in Public Relations
Admission Requirements
(i)    KCSE mean grade C (plain) with C-(minus) in Maths or commerce or Accounts or Economics/Business Studies and C- (minus) in English or Kiswahili
(ii)    KACE with 2 subsidiary passes
(iii)    KCSE mean grade C- (minus) or KCE/EACE Div III with a professional certificate from a recognized institution.
(iv)    KCSE mean grade C- with a professional Certificate from a recognized institution
