South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) is a fully- fledged University which was awarded a Charter on 1st March, 2013 by His Excellency Hon. Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In- Chief of the Defence Forces.
The University College is located in Kwa Vonza division in the Lower Yatta District in a serene and Condusive learning environment, 13 Kilometers off Kwa Vonza Market, along the Kitui-Machakos main road. The institution lies on a 10,000 acre land neighbouring Nyumbani Village and the Goat and Sheep Project (GASP).
SEKU has witnessed tremendous growth and currently offers various certificate, diploma, undergraduate and post graduate programmes. These programmes are running at both Main campus (Kwa Vonza) and at K-REP building 3rd floor in Kitui town. Programmes are being developed for the proposed Machakos and Emali campuses soon to be opened. The Academic Programmes offered have a strong focus on: Dry land Agriculture Mining Mineral Resources, Hydrology, Water studies, and related environmental and scientific areas of study. The University offers scholarship to needy students in the TIVET (Technical, Industrial, Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training) program from the local community.
The programmes are practical and applied with direct impact on the community and developed with stakeholders inputs, in addition SEKUprovides for and promotes, active participation in academics, The development and implementation of quality academic programs and the access to quality and affordable education.
The University runs according to the semester system, the first semester starts on May 24th up to august 27th. The second semester from September 10th to December 24th, and these constitute one Academic year. SEKU is both an academic as well as a religious community. We recognize the importance of worship as well as diversity of faiths.
