Machakos Town Campus

INTRODUCTION 

According to the order establishing the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) and its core business under Section 4(I) Subsection (c), one of the functions and objectives of SEKU is “to provide and advance university education and training to appropriately qualified candidates leading to conferment of degrees and award of diplomas and certificates and such other qualifications as the Council and Senate shall from time to time determine, and in so doing contribute to manpower needs”.
In pursuance of the above function and objective, SEKU has established a number of campuses away from its Main Campus in Lower Yatta, Kitui County.  One of these campus is the Machakos Town Campus. 

LOCATION

This is the second (2nd) Town Campus of South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) – after the Kitui, Town Campus.   The Campus is located at the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) premises along Ngei Road next to Kenyatta – Stadium.  It is currently admitting students for various programs.

FACILITIES 

The AFC Building has office space rented by SEKU for the following:-

i) Office of Campus Director with a Secretariat/Reception desk. 

ii) Three small classrooms (for 12-15 students) at ground floor. 

iii) Large Lecture Hall – First floor with capacity for 50 students/ and above, (the plan is to partition this large hall into six or so rooms ideal for small classes. 

iv) Ablution block – Separate building

 v) Office/preparatory room 

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES AND MODULES

 A number of academic programmes are scheduled to begin this August with the Education - School Based Programme.  The target programmes for the current academic year include:-Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Bachelor of Economics and Statistics and Master of Business Administration.  The Campus has adopted the routine modes for most courses as follows:-

i) Fulltime/Weekdays -   Mondays to Fridays, between 8.00 a.m.  – 5.00p.m. 
ii) Part-Time -   Evenings (Mondays – Fridays, 5.30 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. plus all Saturdays. 
iii) School Based - During the School Holidays (April, August and December Holidays.   - Classes are offered all day. 

South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) is one of the Institutions of Higher Learning to open its gates in the Lower Eastern and it offers a rare opportunity for the local people to undertake higher learning close home.  It is anticipated that, the Machakos Town Campus will grow in size and scope to cater for educational needs of not only the local people but the entire country.
