Dean,Prof Titus KanuiOn the inception of the South Eastern Kenya University(SEKU) the council approved the establishment of the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, comprising of three departments. These include the Department of Dryland Agriculture, the Department of Animal and Wildlife Sciences and the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness. The School has recruited highly qualified staff including Professors and lecturers with PhD. It is hoped that soon an additional Department of Veterinary Sciences will be started.
The School offers TIVET Certificate and Diploma programmes in Agriculture in line with its mandate, and will continue to do so in the future. We offer undergraduate degree programmes in Agriculture and Range management.
During the academic year 2010/2011 we will introduce two undergraduate degree programmes namely; Bachelor of Science in Dryland Agriculture and Bachelor of Science in Dryland Animal Science. Also during the Academic year we will introduce Diploma programmes in Apiculture, Rangeland Management, Food Science and Technology and Diploma in Animal Health and Production. The following Certificate programmes in Apiculture, Rangeland management, Artificial Insemination and Fertility Management, will be mounted during the Academic year 2010/2011. Many more Certificate, Diploma, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy are under development.

Our vision, mission and goal are to provide sustainable solutions, through extension, education, research and creation of knowledge to be able to cope with the adverse effects of heat, aridity and climate change. We are carefully formulating the School’s Strategic Plan to guide the above process.
