Prof. Augustus Nzomo Wali Dean, SPAS Prof. Augustus N. Wali is currently the Dean, School of Pure and Applied Sciences. He got his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed (Science)) degree (Double Mathematics and Education) from Kenyatta University, Kenya, in 1988. He was awarded his Master of Science (MSc) degree in Pure Mathematics from the same university in 1990. Later he got his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics (Differential Geometry) from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India. The title of his thesis is “Geometry of submersions and submanifolds in an almost Hermitian manifold”.Prof. Wali has published several manuscripts in international peer reviewed journals. Currently, he is engaged in research on spacelike and totally real submanifolds in an indefinite complex space form.

The mission of the School is to provide high quality education based on modern scientific teaching and research techniques so as to produce competent scientists in Pure and Applied Sciences.
1. Teaching/training of undergraduate students
2. Development of market driven academic programmes.
3. Periodically review developed academic programmes
4. Advertise and market academic programmes
5. Establish other departments within the school like Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, and Statistics & Biometry
6. Establish and equip state-of-the-art laboratories for teaching and research.
7. Development of income generating projects in the School
The school of Pure and Applied Sciences is strategically placed to offer support programs for the achieving of the South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) mandate in research and innovation in dry land agriculture, water resources, mining and environmental conservation. The School continues to offer and develop relevant academic programmes in order to meet the teaching and training requirements in the Pure and Applied Sciences. The school has qualified staff members who are offering intensive training and scientific exposure to students so as to contribute in achieving the Kenya’s Vision 2030. Key physical facilities within the school include three well equipped ultra-modern laboratories for conducting practicals. The school also houses a state of the art Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, one of the key facilities in analytical research.
The School currently consists of three departments namely:
1. Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science
2. Department of Physical Sciences
3. Department of Biological Sciences
