Pomp and color characterized SEKU’s 5th graduation ceremony, held on Tuesday, 27th February, 2018.

 

The ceremony, which was presided over by the Chancellor, Dr.Titus Naikuni, saw 1069 students graduate with various degrees, including one PhD, 29 masters, 1034 bachelors and five diplomas.

 

The graduation came at a time when the University is engaged in major development projects, notable among them the construction of two campuses in Wote and Kitui towns as well as the construction of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in tat the Main Campus.

 

Addressing the Congregation which brought together members of both academic and political classes, the Chancellor, Dr. Titus Naikuni urged the University Council and Management to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence.

 

“You must now match this achievement with adequate strategic planning and resource allocation to enhance your institutional capacity to drive SEKU’s vision and mission,” said Dr. Naikuni.

 

On the graduands, the Chancellor remarked: It is my hope that the graduands before us today, having lived through this progressive philosophy, are moving out with the resolve to be job creators than job seekers.

 

“As you join the industry, you are requested to go and render good and diligent service to this country, be persons of good character and integrity and remember to give back to families and communities which have supported you.”

 

The Chairman of Council, Dr. Reuben Chirchir urged the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the University by rendering the best of their knowledge and skills to the society.

 

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Geoffrey Muluvi, lauded the parents, staff and other stakeholders for their commitment and sacrifice to ensure that SEKU produced the best.

 

“The making of any great University is anchored on its commitment to scholarly excellence. South Eastern Kenya University has continued to endeavor to achieve its vision of being a globally competitive centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation and service,’ said Prof. Muluvi.

 

The ceremony was attended by among others, Hon. Charity Ngilu, the Governor, Kitui County, the county in which South Eastern Kenya University lies, Prof. Ntiba Micheni, the Principal Secretary, State Department for University Education, Hon. Stephen Kalonzo, the former Vice President, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana Governor, Makueni and Hon. Enock Wambua, the Senator, Kitui County.
