The Kenya DAAD Scholars in collaboration with SEKU are holding a three day conference under the theme ‘’Mental Health Pandemic among Kenyan Academia, Sharing experiences and Building Resilience among the Odds”. This is a timely topic as we mark the Mental Health Awareness Month.
This conference brings together DAAD scholars from Kenya, the East African Region and beyond to discuss among others navigating academic pressure and stigma and myths around mental health. While officially opening the conference, Hon. Ruth Koki, the Kitui County Executive Committee Member, Health and Sanitation and who was representing the Governor, reiterated the importance of taking individual care of ones mental health.
Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda, the SEKU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Dorothee Weyler, the DAAD Regional Director and Prof. Fredrick Nyamwala, Ag. KDSA National Chairperson among other guests also gave their remarks and participated in a tree planting exercise to commemorate this important function..
This conference also brings together experts on mental health who will go an extra mile to hold temporary clinics for participants seeking mental health advice.
