Empowering the next generation of women innovators in AI and Data Science

South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU)in partnership with University of Nairobi, University of California San Francisco and Takeda advancing women’s participation in STEM through the ENGAGE Project (Enabling Girls in AI and Growing Expertise), Tier 2 & 3 Cohort III. The programme equips talented young women but less privileged with practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, and Machine Learning.

The training focuses on using technology to address real-world challenges, particularly in public health and other community needs. Through hands-on projects, participants develop skills in problem-solving, teamwork, data analysis, communication, and innovation.

ENGAGE also provides mentorship and networking opportunities, connecting participants with experienced researchers, trainers, and professionals in STEM. This helps build confidence and encourages more young women to pursue careers in technology, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Each ENGAGE cohort contributes to a growing community of women in STEM. This supportive network provides mentorship, collaboration, and encouragement while helping participants navigate careers in traditionally underrepresented fields such as AI and Data Science.

As Cohort III progresses, SEKU looks forward to the innovative solutions and ideas that will emerge. Through ENGAGE, the University continues to empower young women with the skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to shape the future of AI, Data Science, and STEM.
