SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

1. SENIOR LECTURER GRADE 13 - CIVIL, CONSTRUCTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:

SEKU/ADV/AC/1/5/2022 (1 POSITION) (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Duties and responsibilities of a Senior Lecturer Grade 13:

1. Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
2. Coordinating course projects and practical work;
3. Preparing teaching/learning materials;
4. Develop fundable research proposals that can attract grants from internal and external donors.
5. Conduct research in collaboration with local, regional and international collaborators in order to tackle different issues in the society.
6. Disseminate research findings through publication of journals to share findings and knowledge to the public
7. Train, mentor, supervise and evaluate students carrying out research to ensure the quality of research submitted is up to standards.
8. Review research and academic journals in the university to ensure they can attract grants.
9. Give consultancy services to participate in problem solving and development of society at large.
10. Acquire patents from innovations to protect knowledge and ensure proper benefits to the innovators.
11. Liaise with teaching, technical and administrative staff to enhance and monitor quality course delivery.
12. Develop adaptable teaching delivery models to ensure that learning is effective and continuous.
13. Examine students to test understanding of learned concepts and allow progression from one level to another.
14. Identify required resource materials such as books to enhance quality teaching.
15. Develop practical modules/manuals in line with developed curriculum to enhance practical applications of learned concepts.
16. Review and update course content, materials and curricula regularly.
17. Initiate community participatory development projects and activities that benefit the university as well as the community at large.
18. Show case innovations of the university during community exhibitions.
19. Establish linkages and networks with external stakeholders that can fund project research in the university.

Requirements for appointment:

For appointment to this position, one must:

1. Have an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree qualification in any area of Engineering from a recognized/accredited university.
2. Have at least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level as a lecturer or six (6) years research/industry experience.
3. Have a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
4. Have supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer Grade 12 or equivalent.
5. Have attracted research funds as a lecturer Grade 12 or equivalent.
6. Be registered with Engineers Board of Kenya and with a valid membership certificate
7. Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

1. LECTURER GRADE 12 – MEDICAL LABORATORY DEPARTMENT - SPECIALIZATION IN HISTOLOGY AND CYTOLOGY :

Duties and Responsibilities of Lecturer Grade 12:

1. Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
2. Coordinating course projects and practical work;
3. Preparing teaching/learning materials;
4. Setting, invigilating and marking examinations/assignments;
5. Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
6. Preparing students progress reports;
7. Developing proposals for research funding;
8. Writing journal articles and books;
9. Presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia;
10. Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula; and
11. Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
12. Undertake consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University;
13. Establish collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration and participation for resource mobilization for the University;
14. Present research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and to influence international policy environment for improvement of life;
15. Engage with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities invarious ways such as research and innovations;
16. Execute budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory;
17. Control and manage research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this position, one must :

1. Have an earned Ph.D. in Medical Laboratory Sciences with specialization in Hematology/Blood Transfusion Sciences and Histology and Cytology from an accredited and recognized University; and
2. Be registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) and with a valid membership certificate.

2. CLINICAL NUTRITIONIST INSTRUCTOR GRADE 7/8:

This position is responsible for instructing and evaluating the clinical training of health sciences students on Nutrition and Dietetics .

Duties and Responsibilities of Clinical Instructor Grade 7/8:

The Clinical Instructor Grade 7/8 shall:

1. Coordinate with students and manage all communication with same and provide optimal level of training through practical training.
2. Assist academic staff to analyze student requirements and ensure appropriate resources in facility for same and assist in various laboratory activities.
3. Prepare all student practical lessons and ensure compliance to all academic course programs and evaluate performance of all trainees in clinicaltraining.
4. Develop and maintain good professional relations with students and employees of the school and participate in all practical academic processes.
5. Arrange the laboratory apparatus and models in an orderly manner for smooth processes during the practical sessions.
6. Provide support for practical learning in science courses by facilitating practical sessions to ensure efficient delivery of the content matter.
7. Assist in invigilation of practical examination sessions to enhance integrity and quality in the examination process.
8. Provide a conducive and safe learning environment in the laboratory to ensure conformity with the stipulated occupational, health and safety standards.
9. Collect experimental specimens and samples using stipulated standard operating procedures to be used for practical demonstration.

Requirements for Appointment:

For appointment to this position, one must:

1. Have a BSc. (Nutrition and Dietetics) from a recognized institution.
2. Be registered with Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) and with a valid membership license.
