South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Douglas Shitanda proudly participated in the 2026 Madaraka Thematic Week held in Wajir County, reaffirming its commitment to advancing education, innovation, research, and community transformation in Kenya. The thematic week, organized ahead of the national Madaraka Day celebrations, brought together universities, technical institutions, government agencies, innovators, and development partners under the theme “Education, Skills and the Future.”
The event, was held at Wagberi Primary School in Wajir, provided a national platform for SEKU as an institution of higher learning to showcase its academic programmes, research outputs, technological innovations, and contributions to national development.
SEKU's exhibition stand attracted numerous visitors among them was the PS, Higher Education Dr. Beatrice Inyangala and other government officials, students, educators, and members of the public who were keen to learn more about the University's academic offerings, research initiatives, and community outreach programmes. The University showcased innovations developed by its staff and students, highlighting practical solutions aimed at addressing societal challenges in areas such as health, agriculture, environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and digital technology.
Speaking during the exhibition, the SEKU team emphasized the University's dedication to producing skilled graduates equipped to drive socio-economic transformation and support Kenya's development agenda. The participation also provided an opportunity to engage with prospective students, industry stakeholders, and collaborating institutions on emerging opportunities in higher education, research, and innovation.
