South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) was honoured to host the Athletics Kenya Universities Cross Country Championships, a prestigious sporting event that brought together university athletes from across the country. The championship was successfully held at the SEKU campus, reaffirming the University’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in sports development and student engagement.
The colourful event was officially flagged off by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research and Innovation, Prof. Harrison Maithya, who applauded the participating institutions and emphasized the importance of sports in nurturing discipline, teamwork, and holistic student development. Prof. Maithya noted that SEKU remains committed to supporting both academic excellence and co-curricular activities as part of its mandate.
The cross country races attracted strong competition, with athletes displaying exceptional endurance, skill, and sportsmanship. In addition to the cross country championships, several indoor and recreational games were also held, including chess, darts, pool table, and floor ball, adding excitement and diversity to the sporting activities throughout the day.
