Pursuant to the South Eastern Kenya University Charter, 2013 Section III (22) (7) on conferment of honorary degrees and upon recommendation of the University Senate, the University has the pleasure to present Mr. David Wambua Masika to Kenyans and the international community for the award of Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D), (Honoris Causa) during the 13th University graduation ceremony to be held on Friday, 30th October, 2026.
The University Senate, in granting this award, observed that David Wambua Masika, born in 1950, has made extraordinary contributions to the real estate sector, and agricultural valuations, feasibility studies, and is an accomplished investor and entrepreneur, hence a distinguished expert and leader. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Land Economics from the University of Nairobi in 1975 and is a registered member of the Institute of Surveyors of Kenya and a licensed and registered valuer. In 2025, Mr. David Wambua Masika was named a National Hero in recognition of his exceptional contributions to entrepreneurship and industry in Kenya. He received the Order of Golden Heart (OGW) from the President in 2006 and was honored as a Fellow by the Institute of Surveyors of Kenya in 2026 for his exemplary service to the profession.
Mr. David Wambua Masika co-founded Lloyd Masika Ltd, one of the country's foremost firms in real estate valuation, agency, and property management. The company has overseen more than 1 million square feet of commercial space and over 800 residential units. Mr. David Wambua Masika has led valuation projects for some of the country's landmark buildings including Sarit Centre, The Mall (Westlands), Barclays Plaza, Telposta Towers, and several mixed-use developments.
Beyond his firm, Mr. David Wambua Masika has held key leadership positions and immensely contributed to community service as a board member of various schools and institutions, among them, Machakos Girls High School, Mwaani Girls High School, Good Shepherd Girls High School, and Ukamba Agricultural Institute (UKAI). He also served as a Council Member of South Eastern University College and South Eastern Kenya University.
Mr. David Wambua Masika has been a corporate leader and has served as Managing Director of Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority, Managing Trustee of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF); and Chairman of Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC), National Bank of Kenya (NBK), and Kenya Meat Commission (KMC). He has chaired Cheshire Disability Services (Kenya) and has been a Board Member of K-Rep Bank, Nairobi Hospital, and Pioneer Holdings Limited.
