South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) is set to introduce the exciting and fast-growing sport of Disc Golf to its students and sports community. This initiative follows a successful training session attended at Rimpa Estates Wildlife Conservancy by university representatives and Disc Golf stakeholders.
The training brought together key participants including Disc Golf Country Director Kevin Becker, Martin Kinoti, Sylvester Mutua, and Berita. The SEKU team gained practical exposure to the sport, its rules, course setup, and the growing opportunities it offers for recreation and competitive play.
Disc Golf is an outdoor sport played much like traditional golf, but instead of hitting a ball into holes, players throw flying discs into specially designed baskets. The sport promotes physical fitness, teamwork, strategic thinking, and environmental appreciation, making it ideal for university students and institutions.
In a major boost to the initiative, the Professional Disc Golf Association has agreed to partially sponsor the establishment of a Disc Golf course at SEKU. This support marks an important milestone in the university’s efforts to diversify sporting activities and provide students with access to internationally recognized sports.
The planned course is expected to create opportunities for student participation, talent development, inter-university competitions, and partnerships with the wider Disc Golf community both locally and internationally.
SEKU looks forward to becoming one of the pioneer universities in Kenya to embrace Disc Golf and promote the sport among young people.
