South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) successfully conducted a Capacity Building Workshop for Directors, Deans, Chairs of Departments and Section Heads at Makueni University College, reaffirming the University's commitment to strengthening leadership, enhancing institutional performance, and promoting effective governance.
Under the theme: Empowering academic and administrative leadership to improve productivity. The workshorp brought together academic and administrative leaders from across the University to enhance their leadership, management, and administrative competencies in line with SEKU's strategic objectives. The workshop provided a platform for participants to share experiences, discuss emerging challenges in higher education, and explore practical strategies for improving service delivery and institutional effectiveness.
Speaking during the workshop, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Wachira emphasized the critical role of departmental leadership in driving the University's academic excellence and operational efficiency. He urged the participants to embrace transformational leadership, accountability, innovation, and teamwork in executing their responsibilities.
The workshop featured presentations and interactive discussions on key areas including Transformative Leadership; Performance and Productivity management; Quality Assurance Management Systems; Budget and University Budgeting Process; Procurement & Tendering Process; HR for Non HR Managers; Emerging trends in student administration & Management; Partnerships & Industry Linkages as well as Research, Innovation and Commercialization. Participants also engaged in practical sessions aimed at strengthening decision-making, problem-solving, and people management skills.
The capacity-building initiative reflects SEKU's continued investment in developing competent leaders capable of steering the University towards achieving its vision of becoming a globally competitive centre of excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
Participants expressed appreciation for the workshop, noting that it equipped them with valuable knowledge and practical tools to enhance leadership effectiveness, improve departmental performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the University.
